Opioid Response
Addressing the opioid epidemic is crucial to safeguarding public health, saving lives, and fostering community well-being through comprehensive and sustained efforts.
We are committed to offering vital support, guidance, and resources for individuals and households impacted by opioid use disorder.

SSRE: A Compassionate Initiative for Support and Empowerment in Central Kentucky
The Supportive Services for Recovery Enhancement (SSRE) program is a compassionate initiative designed to provide support, guidance, and resources for individuals and households in Clark, Madison, Estill, and Powell Counties.
Our Commitment
The SSRE program is here for those navigating Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and co-occurring Substance Use Disorder (SUD) or mental health challenges. This grant has been generously funded by the Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission. If you’ve faced these issues, we’re here to lend a helping hand.
How We Can Help
Eligibility is determined based on a current or previous diagnosis by a licensed medical practitioner. If you’ve received prior treatment for OUD or co-occurring SUD, or if you’re transitioning from incarceration with a non-violent opioid-related conviction, you’re eligible to receive services.
Our Supportive Activities Include:
Case Management Services
Temporary Financial Assistance (TFA) Services
Focused on Achieving Positive Outcomes
Your Journey to Empowerment Starts Here
The goal of the SSRE project is to empower individuals and households negatively impacted by OUD and co-occurring SUD/MH issues in the target counties to achieve long-term recovery, housing stability, and self-sufficiency. Together, we can reduce the impact of the opioid epidemic and poverty in our community. Let’s embark on this journey towards a brighter, more empowered future!
Empowering Recovery: SSRE-MDAR Project Offers Hope and Support in Madison County
The Supportive Services for Recovery Enhancement – Madison Detention and Re-entry Project (SSRE-MDAR) is dedicated to offering support, hope, and empowerment to our neighbors in Madison County. Our mission is to provide essential prevention, treatment, and recovery services, focusing on a particularly vital phase – the journey of individuals with Opioid Use Disorder and Substance Use Disorder as they prepare for reentry into the community.
Our Commitment
This initiative, generously funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), aims to address a concerning reality – Madison County holds the third-highest overdose death rate in the Commonwealth. To counter this distressing statistic, Kentucky River Foothills is proud to introduce a transformative project with the support of a one-year grant.
What We’re Doing
In collaboration with the Madison County Detention Center, SSRE-MDAR has added a Peer Support Specialist and a dedicated Recovery Navigator to work closely with male detainees. Recognizing that men constitute 75% of the detention population, our focus is on providing tailored support 30 days before release and continuing for 90 days after.
Our Supportive Approach Includes:
Why It Matters
Research shows that with comprehensive support, individuals post-incarceration have a significantly higher chance of successful recovery post-incarceration. SSRE-MDAR is committed to bridging the gap between release and a productive, fulfilling life.
How It Works
Our experienced Recovery Navigator guides each individual through potential barriers that may seem overwhelming, ensuring they have every opportunity to achieve their recovery goals. By addressing the unique needs of each participant through an individualized plan, we aim to make a lasting positive impact.
The Ripple Effect
This project extends beyond individuals to touch the lives of families, contributing to reduced overdose deaths upon release and return to jail. It’s about fostering hope, creating pathways to recovery, and illuminating a brighter future for all. Every step forward signifies progress in rebuilding lives and communities. Together, we can make a lasting impact.
