Foothills Express proudly operates the on-campus Big E Transit Service at Eastern Kentucky University.
This service enables students, faculty, and staff to navigate the Campus Beautiful effortlessly with convenient stops, completely free of charge.
Throughout the regular semester, Big E Transit offers 6 bus routes tailored to meet the diverse needs of the campus community. These routes include essential campus stops available Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., as well as evening routes from Sunday to Thursday, extending from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Additionally, Big E Transit provides a Sunday route from noon until 6 p.m., granting students the chance to venture off campus and explore destinations such as the Richmond Centre, Wal-Mart, and Meijer.

The EKU Campus Transit Service is funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation and is passed through the Commonwealth of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Office of Transportation Delivery. Eastern Kentucky University contributes to the operation of this program.
Foothills Express provides curb-to-curb transportation Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A 48-hour advance notice is required to schedule a trip.
Important scheduling note:
Trips for Monday must be requested by 2 p.m. on Thursday.
Reservations can be made by calling 800-819-7083 or 859-624-3236. All trips are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to availability.
Fares (Round Trip)
Express Service (up to 5 miles): $5.00
Madison County Connector: $5.00
Intercity Service to Lexington: $40.00
Intercity Service to Louisville or CVG Airport: $50.00
For Express Service trips:
4 miles or less: $4.00 round trip
More than 4 miles: $1.50 per mile, each way
Exact change is required. Prepayment is not accepted.
Door-to-door assistance is available upon request for riders who need additional help.
Foothills Express provides Intercity Service that connects rural communities to major transportation hubs and transit systems. This service offers access to:
Airports in Lexington, Louisville, and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky
Train stations in Louisville and Cincinnati
Urban transit systems including LexTran, TARC, and TANK
National bus services such as Megabus and Greyhound
Intercity Service operates Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. All trips must be scheduled in advance through the dispatch office at 800-819-7083 or 859-624-3236.
Reservation Requirements
Lexington Airport: 48-hour advance notice required
Louisville or Northern Kentucky: 72-hour advance notice required
All trips are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to availability.
Fares
Lexington area systems: $30.00 round trip
Louisville and Northern Kentucky systems: $40.00 round trip
For airport trips, riders must provide flight information at the time of scheduling. If a flight is delayed, passengers should contact dispatch as soon as possible. Return pickup times vary by airport and are based on established cutoff times.
Service Area
Intercity trips must originate within the Foothills Express service area, which includes Clark, Estill, Madison, Montgomery, and Powell counties.
Foothills Express provides non-emergency medical transportation for Medicaid clients who live in Clark, Estill, Madison, and Powell counties.
For eligibility questions, trip scheduling, or additional information, riders must contact Foothills Express’ transportation broker, Federated Transportation Services of the Bluegrass (FTSB), at 859-258-2722 or 888-848-0989.
Medicaid transportation requests require a 72-hour advance notice.

Foothills Express proudly operates a public deviated-fixed transportation route in Berea, ensuring convenient access to various destinations including department and grocery stores, apartment communities, city and county offices, educational institutions, and local businesses.
The Berea Bus Service operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding national holidays, with a loop around the city every 60 minutes. In case of cancellations or delays due to inclement weather, please refer to your local news stations for updates. This service is funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation and administered through the Commonwealth of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Office of Transportation Delivery, with contributions from the City of Berea.
How to Ride the Bus
The Berea Bus Service only stops at locations listed on the schedule. Plan your pickup according to times listed on the schedule and try to be early. Please notice that all times listed are departure times and not arrival times. To utilize the bus service, stand at a bus stop and make sure you are visible to the driver. Have your fare or pass ready upon boarding the bus.
Bus Passes
A bus pass is required to ride. Passes can be purchased on the bus or at the Foothills office located at 6021 Atwood Drive. Bus fare is $1 per rider or $0.50 for college students with a valid ID. Children age 8 and under always ride free. Please have the exact fare ready, as drivers do not make change. You can buy a single pass each day or save 30% by purchasing a bundle of 10 passes for $7. Each pass is valid for one day and allows unlimited rides for that day.
Off-Route Requests
The deviated-fixed route will deviate for the general public, with and without disabilities. Riders can request an off-route (stop that is not listed on the schedule) by calling dispatch 24-hours in advance. All off-route stops must be within ¾ mile of the existing route. All requests are subject to availability.
Seat Belt and Child Safety Policy
Kentucky State Law requires all riders to wear a seat belt at all times. Children under the age of eight (8), or who are less than fifty-seven (57) inches in height, must be secured in an appropriate child safety seat for their age, weight, and height. Additionally, all safety seats must be provided by and secured by the parent or legal guardian. Only children greater than fifty-seven (57) inches in height shall not be required to be secured in a child safety seat or booster.
Passenger Bag Limit Policy
Three grocery/shopping bags are okay. Driver is not permitted to carry any passenger items.

The Richmond Transit Service includes Bus A, which loops around the city every 90 minutes, and Bus B, which loops around the Exit-90 area of the city every 60 minutes. Operating Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding national holidays, this service is funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation and administered through the Commonwealth of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Office of Transportation Delivery, with contributions from the City of Richmond.

The EKU stop is for riders accessing or exiting Eastern Kentucky University’s campus via transfer between City of Richmond and EKU buses. Fare is required to transfer from EKU bus to the bus. You may purchase one pass each day or save 30% and buy a bundle of 10 passes for $7! Kids 8 and under ride free. Riders may use their pass to get on/off at any stop for the date of purchase only.

Foothills Express proudly operates a public, deviated-fixed transportation route in Winchester, facilitating access to various destinations including department and grocery stores, apartment communities, city and county offices, educational institutions, and local businesses.
The Winchester-Clark County Transit Service features loops around the city every 75 minutes and operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the exception of national holidays. In cases of cancellations or delays due to inclement weather, passengers are advised to refer to their local news stations for updates.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation and administered through the Commonwealth of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Office of Transportation Delivery, the Winchester-Clark County Transit Service also receives contributions from the City of Winchester and Clark County Fiscal Court.

Riders may use the ticket to get on/off the bus an unlimited number of times throughout the day. BCTC students ride free with valid ID, courtesy of Bluegrass Community & Technical College. Kids 8 and under always ride free.

Reliable and affordable transportation across Madison County is made simple with the Madison County Connector. Linking Berea Transit and Richmond Transit A & B, this service makes it easy to get where you need to go, whether it’s for work, school, medical appointments, or shopping. To ride, simply call at least 24 hours in advance to schedule your trip. Pick-up and drop-off are available at any designated transit stop in Berea or Richmond. Be sure to allow a 30-minute pick-up window, as schedules may vary.
Off-Route Requests
If your destination is slightly off our standard route, you may request a deviation. Call at least 24 hours in advance to schedule. The stop must be within ¾ of a mile from an existing bus stop, and at least one leg of your trip must begin or end at a designated stop.
Seat Belt and Child Safety Policy
Kentucky law mandates that all passengers wear seat belts while riding. Children under 8 years old or shorter than 57 inches must be secured in an appropriate child safety seat, which must be provided and installed by the parent or guardian.
Passenger Bag Limit Policy
Passengers may bring up to three shopping bags. Please note that drivers are unable to assist with carrying items.
