Expanding upon the enduring collaboration between Eastern Kentucky University and KRFDC, Foothills Express proudly operates the on-campus Big E Transit Service.
This service enables students, faculty, and staff to navigate the Campus Beautiful effortlessly with convenient stops, completely free of charge.
Throughout the regular semester, Big E Transit offers 6 bus routes tailored to meet the diverse needs of the campus community. These routes include essential campus stops available Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., as well as evening routes from Sunday to Thursday, extending from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Additionally, Big E Transit provides a Sunday route from noon until 6 p.m., granting students the chance to venture off campus and explore destinations such as the Richmond Centre, Wal-Mart, and Meijer.

The EKU Campus Transit Service is funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation and is passed through the Commonwealth of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Office of Transportation Delivery. Eastern Kentucky University contributes to the operation of this program.
Foothills Express offers convenient Express Service (curb-to-curb) from Monday to Friday, operating between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. To schedule a trip, a 48-hour notice is required, and reservations can be made by calling 800-819-7083 or (859) 624-3236.
It’s important to note that trips requested for Monday must be scheduled by 2 p.m. on Thursday.
The Express Service is priced at $4.00 per round-trip for distances of 4 miles or less, while trips exceeding this distance are charged at $1.50 per mile each way. Riders are required to have exact change for fare payment, as prepayment is not accepted.
All trips are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to availability. Additionally, door-to-door assistance is available upon request for riders who utilize this service.
Foothills Express provides Intercity Service, linking smaller rural areas to major mass transit hubs such as airports in Lexington, Louisville, and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky, train stations in Louisville and Cincinnati, urban transit systems like LexTran, TARC, and TANK, as well as nationwide bus networks like Mega Bus and Greyhound.
Operating Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Intercity Service requires reservations made through the dispatch office at 800-819-7083 or (859) 624-3236. Reservations for trips to the Lexington Airport need a 48-hour notice, while trips to Louisville or Northern Kentucky require a 72-hour notice. All trips are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability.
Intercity fares range from $30.00 to systems in the Lexington area and $40.00 to systems in Louisville and Northern Kentucky. For airport trips, passengers must provide flight details, and in case of flight delays, contacting dispatch promptly is crucial. Pickup times for return trips vary, with cutoff times detailed for each airport.
Please note that Foothills Express can only perform Intercity trips originating within its service area, which includes Clark, Estill, Madison, Montgomery, and Powell counties.
Foothills Express offers non-emergency medical transportation services to Medicaid clients residing in Clark, Estill, Madison, and Powell Counties. For details, scheduling, or eligibility inquiries, individuals are required to contact Foothills Express’ broker, Federated Transportation Services of the Bluegrass (FTSB), at (859) 258-2722 or 888-848-0989. It’s important to note that Medicaid-covered transportation necessitates a 72-hour advance notice.

Foothills Express proudly operates a public deviated-fixed transportation route in Berea, ensuring convenient access to various destinations including department and grocery stores, apartment communities, city and county offices, educational institutions, and local businesses.
The Berea Bus Service operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding national holidays, with a loop around the city every 60 minutes. In case of cancellations or delays due to inclement weather, please refer to your local news stations for updates. This service is funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation and administered through the Commonwealth of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Office of Transportation Delivery, with contributions from the City of Berea.
How to Ride the Bus
To utilize the Berea Bus Service, plan your pickup according to the schedule and aim to be early, as all times listed are departure times. Stand at a designated bus stop and ensure visibility to the driver. Have your fare or pass ready upon boarding.
Bus Passes
A bus pass is required to ride the Berea Bus Service and can be purchased on the bus or at the Foothills office located at 309 Spangler Drive in Richmond, KY. The fare is $1 per rider or $0.50 for college students with a valid ID. Passengers must have the exact fare, as drivers do not provide change. Riders can save 30% by purchasing a bundle of 10 passes for $7. Children aged 8 and under ride free. Each pass is valid for one day and allows unlimited rides throughout the day.
Off-Route Requests
The deviated-fixed route accommodates off-route requests from the general public, with and without disabilities. Passengers can request an off-route stop by contacting dispatch at least 24 hours in advance. Off-route stops must be within ¾ mile of the existing route and standing orders are not permitted. All requests are subject to availability.
Seat Belt and Child Safety Policy
In compliance with Kentucky State Law, all riders must wear seat belts at all times. Children under 8 years of age or less than 57 inches in height must be secured in an appropriate child safety seat provided and secured by the parent or legal guardian.
Groceries
Passengers are allowed to carry up to three grocery or shopping bags. However, drivers are not permitted to handle any passenger items.

Foothills Express proudly operates a public, deviated-fixed transportation route in Winchester, facilitating access to various destinations including department and grocery stores, apartment communities, city and county offices, educational institutions, and local businesses.
The Winchester-Clark County Transit Service features loops around the city every 90 minutes and operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the exception of national holidays. In cases of cancellations or delays due to inclement weather, passengers are advised to refer to their local news stations for updates.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation and administered through the Commonwealth of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Office of Transportation Delivery, the Winchester-Clark County Transit Service also receives contributions from the City of Winchester and Clark County Fiscal Court.
How to Ride the Bus

To utilize the bus service, stand at a designated bus stop and ensure visibility to the driver. Have your fare or pass ready upon boarding.
Bus Passes
A bus pass is necessary for riding the Winchester-Clark County Transit Service and can be obtained on the bus or at the Foothills office located at 309 Spangler Drive in Richmond, KY. The fare is $1 per rider. Passengers must have the exact fare amount, as drivers do not provide change. Riders can also enjoy a 30% discount by purchasing a bundle of 10 passes for $7, with each pass valid for one day only. BCTC students ride free with a valid ID, courtesy of Bluegrass Community & Technical College. Children aged 8 and under always ride free.

Experience the convenience and affordability of the Madison County Connector Service, offering Madison County residents an alternative commute between Richmond and Berea for various needs like shopping, entertainment, medical appointments, education, and business. With four round trips available each weekday, the Madison County Connector ensures seamless travel from Berea Bus Service stops to Richmond Transit Service stops.
The Connector operates from Berea Bus Stops at 7 a.m., 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m., and from Richmond Transit Stops at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. To secure a spot, riders must contact our dispatch office by 11:30 a.m. one business day before their trip. The Connector conveniently picks up riders at prearranged stops or off-route locations, opposite the city they are traveling to.
Once aboard the Connector, passengers are transported to either a Berea Bus Service or Richmond Transit Service stop, granting access to various destinations along their chosen route. The affordable daily fare includes a round trip, ensuring flexibility for passengers with the return journey provided on the same day.
Operating hours for the Madison Connector Route are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Reservations require a 24-hour notice, and off-route requests within ¾ mile of existing routes are permitted. Established through a partnership between the KRFDC Transportation Department and the KY Office of Transportation Delivery, this service caters to employees’ commuting needs.
