Kentucky River Foothills Opens Summer LIHEAP Cooling Assistance on July 28
Karen Atkins |

Beginning July 28, Kentucky River Foothills Development Council, Inc. (KRFDC) will accept applications for the Summer Subsidy Cooling Component of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The program provides one-time electric bill assistance for income-eligible households. Applications will be accepted through September 12, or until funds are fully expended.
“We know how dangerous summer heat can be, especially for families with limited income,” said Karen Atkins, Public Information Officer for KRFDC. “This program is designed to ease that burden by providing targeted support that helps people stay in their homes and maintain access to essential cooling.”
Households with income at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines may qualify for a benefit ranging from $50 to $250, depending on income and housing situation. To qualify, applicants must be responsible for their home electric costs, either directly or as part of their rent. Participation in other LIHEAP components does not impact eligibility.
All payments are made directly to utility providers and may only be used for electric expenses.
Required documentation includes:
- Social Security Number or Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) for all household members
- Proof of income for all household members for the previous month
- A current electric bill; a statement from the landlord if utilities are included in rent; or a utility statement if enrolled in a pre-pay plan
Appointments are required.
To apply, schedule an appointment by calling 859-544-1713 or visiting foothillscap.itfrontdesk.com
